It is the Sunday before Christmas! Wow – where have the days gone so quickly. Christmas arrives, as it always does, and each year there are always surprises. Has anything surprised you this Christmas? Perhaps you have learned something new about the Christmas story that you never knew before. Maybe you have had the chance to bless someone in a surprising way. Perhaps you might have found a surprising gift to share, or perhaps you have received something that surprised you. Surprises are certainly a big part of Christmas not only today, but also at the very first Christmas. Once again, we visit with the Night Shift Shepherds, out in the fields, carrying for the temple sheep and get caught up all over again in their surprise that first Christmas night.

We often sing about the first Christmas night and imagine it to be a silent night. It was not! The first Christmas was chaotic and messy – a lot like some of our own Christmas celebrations in our own homes. In the midst of the mayhem and clutter, the peace of God radiates through our celebration and reminds us that God’s presence brings hope to our messy and unexpected moments. Get ready for a silent night with some holy messes!

The Christmas season reminds us of the longing for home—a place where we belong, are loved, and find peace.
But sometimes, just like Mary and Joseph in Luke 2:1-7, the journey to “home” isn’t easy.
Yet, even in unexpected places and imperfect circumstances, God creates a space for us to belong.
Christmas is here and it is time to go “Home for Christmas.”
Today we will see the importance of home and how to help create that safe space for others.
